6/21 What did you learn today?
- I am currently learning how to collaborate using PB Works. I have "wiki'd" before with students but only with Wetpaint. This is the first time with fellow teachers...the learning will take longer than one day I think! Submitted by @a_dowling

- On Saturday (6/20) I was sensing Twitter frustration from @amyhopkins. I tweeted a couple of suggestions to her and then asked her if she wanted to do a Skype call. We spoke for about 20 minutes and I shared how I built my PLN on Twitter and encouraged her to continue to grow hers. She agreed to give Twitter some more time. Submitted by @plnaugle

- Also on Saturday (6/20) my friend @sharon_elin asked for comments on a VoiceThread she created. I added my comments and tweeted that info to Sharon. She asked if I could see the comments of the other participants. I replied that I could not. She retweeted the link and it still didn't allow me to see the other comments. We did a Skype call and looked at the setting on VoiceThread. I was looking for the "curtain" you have to open to allow others to see others' comments. Sharon finally located it on each person's comment and her VT worked perfectly. Submitted by @plnaugle
- I attended the Classroom 2.0 Live webinar "The Buzz about Learn Central" in Elluminate that was tweeted by @kcaise and @pgeorge. You can view the archived session here. Submitted by @plnaugle

- @bethstill learned how to wrap text around an image in PB Works all you have to do is right click the image while in edit mode and select alignment. Thanks @jgates513 and @cheryltice
- @kyteacher learned about mapvivo, a website that allows users to create a share online travel journals from @Larryferlazzo. I need to explore the site some more, but at first glance it appears to be something that I could use in my World Geography classes next year.
- I read about the short stories written in 140 characters or less and am thinking about using these as a way to teach inferenceing with my students. I also want to use them as examples for teaching summarizing.

- @plnaugle Learned from Scott Meech that I have responsibilities at NECC - to learn so I can redirect back in my district, to reach out to newbies, and to be willing to disagree and start a conversation.
- @a_dowling learned from @sciencebase about @pulseporject. "The ‘Pulse-Project’ offers a wide range of freely accessible audio and video lectures for both general and specialised audiences, and delivered by eminent academics. It hopes to reflect and inform debates amongst academics, students, and the wider public alike, and to thereby engage with the formative scientific questions of our time." A very useful site for us science-leaning Tweeple!

| @giftedteechur learned that a Promethean is a type of SmartBoard. On Twitter, many profiles mention Prometheans (which I assumed were some type of computer! DUH! Now I need to learn more about the Still Video Camera that I found while cleaning out some shelves at school. By the looks of it - it seems an "older" version of a digital camera. My predecessor was ahead of her time!! |
